Celebrated Urdu poet Munawwar Rana passed away in Lucknow at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. Known for his soul-stirring poetry, especially on the theme of "Mother" (Maa), he was a prominent figure in contemporary Urdu literature. He used simple words in his ghazals, avoiding tough Persian and Arabic terms.
