R Doraiswamy Appointed as LIC’s Managing Director and CEO Until 2028.

In July 2025, Ramachandran Doraiswamy officially assumed the position of Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). His three-year term (or until reaching the age of 62) is set to end in August 2028, marking a significant leadership transition at India’s largest life insurer.


      - The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) recommended Doraiswamy for the top role on June 11, 2025, after evaluating four senior MD candidates. His appointment was subsequently approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and notified by the Department of Financial Services.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Doraiswamy replaced Sat Pal Bhanoo, who had served as interim MD & CEO since June 8, 2025, following the retirement of Siddhartha Mohanty on June 7. His term will extend up to August 31, 2028, or until he turns 62, whichever comes first.

      (ii) A mathematics graduate from Madurai Kamaraj University, Doraiswamy is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India, with over 38 years of experience spanning operations, marketing, technology, and academics. He has held roles including Executive Director (IT) and regional marketing head in Chennai, Kottayam, and Pune.

(iii) As MD & CEO, Doraiswamy will steer LIC’s transformation in the post-IPO era, overseeing ₹45 lakh crore in assets under management (AUM), digital innovation, product expansion, and investor confidence. His leadership is closely watched by stakeholders and market analysts alike.
