Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Inaugurates North‑East Conclave 2025 at IIM Shillong to Boost Regional Start‑up Ecosystem.

On 11 July 2025, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the IICA North‑East Conclave 2025, themed “From Ideation to Incorporation”, held at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, Meghalaya.
- The two-day event, organised by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA), brought together entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and academia to strengthen the north-eastern entrepreneurial ecosystem
- The inaugural session included dignitaries such as Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya; Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary, MoCA; Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary, Meghalaya; and Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, DG & CEO of IICA.
Main Point :- (i) A key highlight was the foundation stone laying for the first North‑East regional campus of the IICA at Umsawli, Shillong, marking a major step toward establishing a permanent institutional base for corporate governance, policy education, and start-up support in the region.
(ii) The conclave showcased 39 start-ups, farmer producer organisations, financial entities, and incubators from across northeastern India. It also featured seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with organisations like MATI, IIM Shillong, STPI, ICAI, ICSI, ICMAI, and NLU Assam to bolster capacity-building, compliance training, and incubator linkages.
(iii) Structured around four themes—startup incorporation and regulatory frameworks, incubation models, funding mechanisms (seed‑to‑scale), and market access strategies—the conclave included technical sessions, fireside chats, and investor panels aimed at translating regional innovations into scalable ventures.
