In March 2025, 20-year-old Indian Chess Grandmaster (GM) Nihal Sarin triumphed at the 18th edition of the 2025 Tashkent Open Agzamov Memorial in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He clinched the title with an unbeaten score of 8 out of 10, finishing half a point ahead of the second-place finisher, Russian GM Sanan Sjugirov.


      - Nihal Sarin was awarded a prize of USD 20,000 (approximately Rs. 17 lakh), with a total prize fund of USD 75,000, and gained 7.1 Elo rating points, bringing his live rating to 2694, nearing the prestigious 2700 mark.

      - This achievement marks Nihal's first classical rating tournament win in 2025, following his major classical victory at the 2024 President Cup.

      - Nihal Sarin, who was ranked World No. 2 in Rapid Chess in 2022, continues to demonstrate exceptional skill and consistency.

Main Point :-   (i) Indian GM Abhimanyu Puranik claimed third place after tie-breaks, while Indian GM Aditya Mittal showcased impressive skills with a top-ten finish.

      (ii) Women FIDE Master (WFM) Shubhi Gupta (India) emerged as the top female performer, securing 44th place overall with a score of 6/10.
