The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved a viability gap funding (VGF) scheme for the promotion of Coal Gasification projects in India. The government has allocated Rs 8,500 crore for incentives. The target is to gasify 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030 to reduce reliance on imported natural gas and fuels.
