Rajasthan CM Launches ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Garibi Mukt Gaon Yojana’ to Eradicate Rural Poverty.

On July 2, 2025, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced the launch of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Garibi Mukt Gaon Yojana, a flagship rural poverty‑alleviation program targeting 5,000 villages in the first phase with a corpus of ₹1,300 crore, aiming to uplift 30,631 below‑poverty‑line (BPL) families.


      - The new scheme allocates ₹21,000 cash incentives to each family that successfully moves above the poverty line through self-effort. It also includes direct benefit components like up to ₹1 lakh for self-employment, ₹15,000 working capital for women’s self-help groups, and additional support for financial inclusion and livelihood initiatives.

      - A comprehensive survey of 30,631 BPL households has already been completed across 5,002 villages. The government has verified 17,891 out of 22,400 families for direct benefit transfer (DBT) and issued Atmanirbhar Parivar Cards to facilitate ongoing support.

     

Main Point :-   (i) To ensure transparency and performance, district-level rankings are introduced: top-performing districts will receive ₹50 lakh, ₹35 lakh, and ₹25 lakh in quarterly awards. Villages will be supported through online Poverty-Free Village Action Plans, aligning with other state welfare schemes.

      (ii) This initiative complements the ongoing Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Sambal Pakhwada campaign, which began on June 24, 2025, focusing on last-mile delivery of welfare—including land rights, NFSA grievance redressal, Swamitva deeds, soil health cards, and Aadhaar updates—to ensure poverty-free outcomes.

(iii) CM Sharma has mapped a larger vision, aiming to make 15,000 villages poverty-free by March 2027, with a second phase to cover an additional 10,000 villages. The scheme is part of a wider rural development strategy, including PMAY-G housing, smart city expansion, and creating 26,000 government jobs.
