International Day of Parliamentarism Observed on 30 June 2025.

Important Days

The International Day of Parliamentarism is observed globally on June 30 to recognize the role of parliaments in democratic governance, accountability, and representation. It marks the anniversary of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), founded on 30 June 1889.

      - The day was officially designated by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution A/RES/72/278 in 2018 to highlight the importance of parliaments in upholding democratic principles, facilitating public voice, and promoting legislative transparency worldwide.

      - In 2025, the theme is "Achieving Gender Equality: Action by Action", aligned with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action. The focus is on how parliaments can drive legal reforms and institutional mechanisms to close gender gaps and empower women in politics.

      - Parliaments play a critical role in lawmaking, budget approvals, policy oversight, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They also ensure checks and balances in governance, protect civil liberties, and support climate and peace-related legislation.
