NITI Aayog Launches Strategic Blueprint to Boost India's Hand & Power Tools Exports to USD 25 Billion.

In April 2025, New Delhi-based National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) released a report titled "Unlocking USD 25+ Billion Export Potential – India’s Hand & Power Tools Sector." The report outlines a strategic vision for India to achieve over USD 25 billion (Rs. 2,13,925+ crore) in exports within the next decade by capturing 25% of the global hand tools market and 10% of the global power tools market.


      - The report was unveiled by Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, in the presence of CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, and Members Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat and Dr. Arvind Virmani. It also highlights the potential to generate approximately 35 lakh jobs through MSME empowerment and the development of a robust industrial ecosystem.

      - The report emphasizes the pivotal role of India’s Hand and Power Tools sector in driving economic growth, presenting a strategic roadmap to boost global competitiveness and reinforce the country's manufacturing capabilities.

     

Main Point :-   (i) India currently participates in a global hand and power tools trade valued at USD 100 billion, which is projected to reach USD 190 billion by 2035. The hand tools segment, currently worth USD 34 billion, is expected to grow to USD 60 billion, while the power tools segment—including accessories—is anticipated to rise from USD 63 billion to USD 134 billion, with electrical tools accounting for the largest share.

      (ii) China dominates the global export landscape, accounting for 50% (USD 13 billion) of hand tool exports and 40% (USD 22 billion) of power tool exports.

(iii) In contrast, India holds a modest share with 1.8% (USD 600 million) in the hand tools market and 0.7% (USD 470 million) in power tools.
