💻 Computer Fundamentals & Introduction

1. Computer

🖥️

Computer – Simple Definition

A computer is an electronic programmable device that accepts data as input, processes it according to a set of instructions, produces information as output and can store the result for future use.

Exam Formula: Input → Processing → Output → Storage

“Computer”

2. Data, Information और Instructions

📥 Data

Raw, unprocessed facts and figures.

📊 Information

Processed and meaningful data. उदाहरण: “Average marks = 82.67”.

Data + Processing = Information

📜 Instruction

Important: Data can be numbers, text, symbols, images, sound or video. Information is the meaningful result obtained after processing data.

4. Characteristics /

⚡ Speed

🎯 Accuracy

🔁 Diligence

💾 Storage

🧩 Versatility

Calculation, documents, banking, designing, communication, education

🤖 Automation

📌 Reliability

🧠 Memory

🔄 Multitasking

5. Limitations – Computer

🚫 No Self Intelligence

🚫 No Feelings

🚫 Depends on Input

GIGO – Garbage In, Garbage Out:

Exam Trap: “Computer never makes mistakes” absolute statement

6. Computer System के मुख्य Components

🔩 Hardware

उदाहरण: keyboard, monitor, CPU cabinet components, mouse, printer.

💿 Software

Application Software.

👤 User / Peopleware

📚 Data

Processing के लिए raw facts supplied to the system.

🧾 Procedures

System को use/operate करने के prescribed steps or rules.

🌐 Connectivity

7. Functional Units of a Computer

📥 Input Unit
➜
🧠 Memory / Storage
↔
⚙️ CPU
CU + ALU + Registers
➜
📤 Output Unit

Input Unit

Processing Unit

Output Unit

8. CPU Basics – Computer का Processing Core

🧠 CPU

Central Processing Unit.

Common exam phrase: CPU is often called the brain of the computer.

➕ ALU

Arithmetic Logic Unit arithmetic operations (+, −, × etc.) और logical/comparison operations करता है।

🎛️ CU

⚡ Registers

🕒 Clock

🔁 Instruction Cycle

Basic idea: Fetch → Decode → Execute (और result/store as needed).

9. Memory & Storage – Basic Map

Computer Memory / Storage
  • Primary / Main Memory
    • RAM – generally volatile working memory
    • ROM – non-volatile memory used for permanent/firmware-related instructions depending on system
    • Cache – high-speed memory helping reduce CPU access time
  • Secondary Storage
    • HDD, SSD
    • Optical media
    • USB/flash storage, memory cards
Volatile: power हटने पर stored working data lost हो सकता है (e.g., RAM). Non-volatile: power off होने पर data retain करता है (e.g., ROM/SSD/HDD, with technology-specific behavior).
